 | Professor in Medical Oncology and Director of the Department of Internal Medicine (Cancer Research) at the University of Essen.
Prof. Schmidt was an outstanding personality and was the first in Germany to see that cancer patients must be treated in Cancer Centers.
He established at the University of Essen Medical School the first German Comprehensive Cancer Centre and called it and called it West German Cancer Center.
He died on 30 December 2003 at the age of 80 years.
