New organisational structure

During the summer of 2018, ESO’s Board revised its organisational structure in view of the incoming new strategic plan (2020-2022), which will be submitted to the Scientific Committee in February 2019.

ESO’s new priorities will be e-learning, targeted educational activities in Central and Eastern Europe and personal career development (Masterclasses, Clinical Training Centres, and Certificates of Competence).

This will lead to a decrease in the field of courses and conferences and a greater commitment to supporting young and promising health professionals (mostly doctors and nurses) in the development of their career in cancer care.

In light of this, the position of COO (Chief Organisational Officer) is no longer necessary; the school thanks Mrs Chatrina Melcher for her key contribution to the growth and consolidation of the School. ESO wishes her all the best for her new career in the consultancy field.

A new position of Deputy Scientific Director has been created and appointed to Dr Alexander Eniu. The School welcomes Dr Eniu to its senior leaders’ team.

ESO will also progressively reduce all externally sponsored activities and focus primarily on its core programme, which is supported financially by its Foundations and by private donations.

Alberto Costa, MD, ESO CEO
