The Clinical Center University of Sarajevo is a leading professional, scientific and educational health institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The center employs 713 doctors, 544 of whom are specialists. Of the employees 36 are University Professors and 31 Assistant Professors. Moreover, 101 of the employees completed a Ph.D. and 122 an MSc. The above confirms the Center's main role as a teaching hospital for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Oncology Divison, which is a part of the Clinical Center University of Sarajevo, is the only comprehensive oncology center in the country and as such is offering the most advanced systemic treatment, surgery and radiotherapy techniques to our patients.
We are proud to be one of the first clinics in the region to establish multidisciplinary approach. Currently all oncological patients are presented and discussed at one of 14 multidisciplinary meeting held at clinic every week. The Oncology Divison KCUS provides inpatient, day care and outpatient services for cancer patients with different forms of solid tumors; with more than 400 patients circulating the Clinic on the daily basis.
Clinic has a huge experience in working with clinical trials. More that 70 trials were succesufully conducted in past 15 years at our clinic. In this context, the most profound experience of ours is in performing clinical trials in HER 2 positive breast cancer, where more than 130 of our patients were included in those, mostly pivotal trails. As for the lung cancer, we have had more than 100 patients in various indications in some of the most important trails, such as ALEX for ALK positive NSCLC. At the moment we are performing phase I, II and III clinical trails in adjuvant, neoadjuvant and metastatic setting. There are more than 40 clinical research projects active at any one time and high patient recruitment rates (7%) to these trials.
Very well equipped department of of radiation oncology is currently able to implement advanced techniques IMRT and VMAT as well as SRS whic are most commonly used for irradiation of the head and neck tumors, CNS tumors, prostate cancer, breast and lung cancer.

Programme description: |
Our Breast Unit is one of the most respectable ones in our region. Our Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Meetings, in which you will participate, are held twice per week. During the meetings proper diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of presented cases are discussed and post-operative care is determined. Each case is in parallel presented to a molecular board where all genomic options are presented and discussed. This way, a full complement of care - including primary breast reconstruction, genetic testing where indicated as well as other specialist services - is available for the patients. During the observership you will learn about diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, in cooperation with our highly skilled radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, breast surgeons, pathologists and breast cancer nurses. The team is dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for its patients in the panel of available options of diagnosis and treatment. Special emphasis is placed on trying to ensure the very best standard of care, while in parallel respecting patients’ preferences and pertaining to high quality of patient’s life. In addition, we are designated Center for HER positive Breast Cancer in Bosnia and Herzegovina and our patients are encouraged to participate in clinical trails in this filed. |

Programme description: |
Our Unit treats kidney, bladder, prostate, testicular and rare urological cancers. Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Meetings, in which you will participate, are held once per week. During these meetings diagnosis and treatment of presented cases are discussed and pre- and post-operative care is determined. The urologic oncology unit registers more than 1400 patients a year, many of whom come for primary disease management. Alternatively, patients come for a second opinion regarding further therapy. During the observership you will learn about diagnosis and treatment of urological tumors, in cooperation with our highly skilled radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, urological surgeons and also pathologysts. Participants will be an active part in the multidisciplinary outpatient clinic with medical oncology, the tumor boards and the daily work on the ward. Additionally, participants will gain an insight into the ongoing clinical trials investigating novel treatment options. The team is highly dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for its patients in the available panel of options of diagnosis and treatment. Special emphasis is placed on trying to ensure the very best standard of care, while in parallel respecting patients’ preferences and pertaining to high quality of patient’s life. |
