Hospital overview
The Centre Hospital of South-Pest (DPC) is a university teaching hospital in Budapest and it is also the National Institute of Hematology and Infectology. DPC has over 1200 active inpatient beds and covers nearly all medical disciplines being one of the largest hospital centres in the country. The oncology, hematology, pediatric hematology and stem cell transplantation departments are at the same site .The oncology department has an inpatient unit with 38 beds, an outpatient unit with 20 outpatient-beds and a hospice with 15 beds. There are 25 000 case yearly treated in the department by 10 medical oncologists, 2 clinical psychologists and 30 nurses . All kind of solid tumors are treated in the department but the main research focus are GI, GU, breast, lung and gynecology malignancies. The vast majority of innovative medicines are available routinly and additionally there are currently 20 clinical studies running. During the last 15 years there has been 140 clinical studies (mainly in GI) and over 500 publications by the department. There is a dedicated building for the rehabilitation of cancer patient –“Firebird”. The nationwide patient advocavy-group “Gyogyulj Velunk” is also based in the department and has its group events in the “Firebird center”. The oncology department educates patients through the national journal “Rakgyogyitas” and its website. The office of the Hungarian Society of Clinical Oncology and its journal “Clinical Oncology” is also based in the department.

| Programme description: |
Tumor boards with all partner disciplines are held 3-times a week and a very close working relationship exists with a molecular biological team Oncompass who provide molecular diagnosis for precision oncology. Each week a scientific lecture is held by an invited expert. In the hospice unit the highest-level of palliative care is provided with dedicated staff. Participants will see the treatment of in- and outpatients in active- and palliative care, cancer patient rehabilitation, they can visit tumor boards and the molecular biological team at Oncompass. |

| Programme description: |
This is a combined and comprehensive program of adult and/or pediatric onco-hematology. The awardee may spend 1-3 months at the unique onco-hematology inpatient department wards (care for lymphomas, multiple myeloma, amyloidosis, acute and chronic leukemias, autologous as well as allogeneic stem cell transplantation), 2-3 months rotation is possible through the transplantation wards, lymphoma clinic, leukemia clinic, myeloma clinic, hematology diagnostic laboratories (flow cytometry, molecular genetics), and lymphoma/myeloma research laboratories. As the largest hungarian primary immunodeficiency center, hundreds of pediatric and adult pts are followed and treated by the whole spectrum of treatment modalities. |

A very comprehensive and unique program in which fellows can observe the daily work and clinical research in medical oncology, hematolo-oncology, pediatric hematology, stem cell transplantation and palliative care in a rotation among the deparments based on the same site. The detailed description is the combination of the „Solid tumor treatments and palliative care” and the „Hematology and stem cell transplantation” programmes listed above. |
