Hospital overview
The Valencian Institute of Oncology (IVO) is a private, non-profit Cancer Center devoted to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research and training in cancer.
Since its foundation in 1976, the IVO has been a benchmark in the treatment of oncological processes, offering, as a monographic cancer center, comprehensive care for cancer patients and their families from a multidisciplinary perspective.
In 2023, the IVO took care of more than 7,000 new patients and more than 24,000 prevalent patients. The cancer center counts on cutting-edge technologies, clinical trials with early-phase unit, radiotherapy, radiology, robotic surgery and early diagnosis programes in breast cancer, gynecological malignancies, lung and prostate cancer.
The IVO has been accredited as a Clinical Cancer Center by the Organization of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) since 2015 and, in addition, it has many other certifications and accreditations that highlight its commitment to cancer patient care (ISO9001; ISO15189; ISO14001 ;QOPI;QH). Remarckably, IVO’s Biobank was the first European ISO20387-accredited biobank and as of today, remains as the only biobank accredited by this entity.
The structure includes 117 beds, 9 surgical suits, 51 infusion boxes at the Day Hospital Unit, ICU for adult patients among other resources. It is an accredited hospital by the Ministers of Health and Education of Spain for the residency training program (MIR) in medical oncology, radiation oncology, dermatology and radiophysics.
The Medical Oncology Department, the Paliative Care Unit and the Home Hospitalization Unit (HHU) work together to anticipate the needs of cancer patients in a comprehensive manner.

1. Lung Cancer Multidisciplinary Unit |

Programme description: |
This programme is intended to allow the student to immerse in the multidisciplinary management of thoracic malignancies with special focus on lung cancer. Therefore, the students will be involved in all the diagnostic procedures needed for a correct pathological and molecular diagnosis of cancer as well as the standard staging procedures. The students will presentially observe all this procedures and attend the Lung Cancer Tumour Board in which clinical decisions are made. In addition, the students will shadow the consultants involved in the therapeutic management of these patients involving targeted therapy and immunotherapy as systemic treatment options. |

This program is tailored for medical oncology specialists seeking to advance their careers in breast oncology, with a focus on multidisciplinary management, endocrine therapy, breast cancer genomics, clinical trials design, and clinical and translational research. |

Programme description: |
This programme is intended to allow the student to immerse in the multidisciplinary management of urological tumours including mainly kidney, bladder, prostate and testicular tumors. Therefore, the students will be involved in all the diagnostic procedures as well as the standard staging procedures. The students will presentially work with all different specialist as a multidisciplianry team, will attend to Urological Cancer Tumour Board in which clinical decisions are made. Students will shadow the consultants involved in the therapeutic management of these patients involving all different treatment options. |

Programme description: |
We offer the possibility of assisting in patient palliative care through three different resources: in their own home (HHU), at our outpatient clinic, and on our hospital ward. We provide comprehensive patient care across all spheres and manage symptom control according to each circumstance. We accompany the patient and their environment in decision-making regarding end-of-life scenarios. The student will gain a holistic approach to the needs arising in palliative care and how to provide responses. |
