General oncology

Description

The amount of research available to practitioners working with people with cancer continues to grow at a rapid rate. Increasingly this evidence is being converted into the knowledge needed for
well-informed decisions through systematic reviews and guidelines. This course will help practitioners to understand how these sources of knowledge are compiled, how to find them, how to appraise them and how to use the knowledge in making decisions about the care of individual patients. It will include a European focus for the identification and use of guidelines. The course will also provide participants with the basic skills needed to plan a systematic review.

Participants will learn how to:
• Formulate the question for a systematic review
• Seek evidence in electronic databases
• Appraise, summarise and analyse the evidence and knowledge in systematic reviews and guidelines
• Apply the knowledge in decision making

The course will be organised as a series of informal lectures, interspersed with facilitated, small group work. This will allow participants to gain “hands on
