The INTERACT-EUROPE project to create an EU inter-specialty cancer training programme aims to foster a patient-centric approach to quality cancer care through the promotion of multi-disciplinary and multi-professional team working. The project seeks to advance the foundations of knowledge and understanding that different professions involved in cancer care have of each other.

INTERACT-EUROPE - Communication and Leadership course is a pilot event for trainees and cancer centres who are interested in getting involved in the inter-specialty cancer training programme that is being designed by the INTERACT-EUROPE Consortium.
Using a small section of the designed training programme, the pilot aims to improve oncology professionals skills in Communication, Collaboration and Leadership and will focus on the following competencies:

  • Communication with patients.
  • Communication with colleagues during MDT meetings.
  • Leadership skills.

It is envisaged that those selected to take part in this pioneer cohort will be given the opportunity to fully complete the inter-specialty cancer training programme in the successor INTERACT-EUROPE project. We are therefore looking for trainees and cancer centres who are able to commit to further developing multidisciplinary cancer care.

The Pilot is divided into two educational parts:

  • Pre-recorded online lectures.
  • In-person event.

The pre-recorded online lectures will be released before the in-person event to give each participant the opportunity to prepare themselves in their own time and at their own pace. They will be held in English with translations available in French, Spanish, German and Slovenian.

The in-person event will take place on 20 – 21st September 2023 in Lisbon, Portugal and will include interactive workshops held over 2 half-days.
The in-person event will be held entirely in English and fluency in English is necessary for admission.

Co-funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA). Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.

Selected participants will be given:

  • Access to the online lectures via www.e-eso.net from July 2023 and access to educational sessions in Lisbon.
  • A contribution towards your travel costs to Lisbon will be reimbursed using the EU flight calculator.
The travel cost contribution will be refunded after the event and receipts for all costs will be requested.
  • Up to 2 night’s accommodation at the event venue (Hotel 3k Europa).
  • Meals as per the event programme.

Participants will be issued a certificate of attendance (minimum attendance: 75% of the online part + 100% of the in-person event). An online evaluation questionnaire and learning assessment test will need to be completed for both parts in order to receive the certificate that will be sent by email.

Application for CME recognition has been submitted and the course has been awarded with 11 Credits by the Accreditation Council of Oncology in Europe (ACOE). The American Medical Association (AMA) and the Accreditation Council for Continuous Medical Education (ACCME) designate this type of educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA category 1 credits per hour of activity.
