COURSES AND SEMINARS
Description
HAEMATOLOGICAL ONCOLOGY MEETING
During the III course organised by ESO in Buenos Aires on Haematological Oncology, two diseases will be discussed: Hodgkin's lymphoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in adults and children.
Dr. Volker Diehl, as Chairman of the German Hodgkin's lymphoma Study Group (GHSG) will be discussing the biology, histology and treatment results in early as well as advanced cases. The GHSG has been organising throughout the past decades large randomized studies with several thousand patients defining the role of different approaches according to risk-group in Hodgkin's lymphoma. He will discuss the different types of chemotherapy, number of cycles as well as the role of adjuvant radiotherapy (involved vs extended field and doses) trying to obtain the highest cure rate with the less short and long term toxicity specially on second tumours.
Dr. Martin Dreyling, a member of the German Lymphoma Group, will discuss the new approach in the biology, histology and treatment of different types of lymphomas.
The incorporation as first line treatment of chemoimmunotherapy with the monoclonal antibody of Rituximab has changed the prognosis of most of the B-Cell lymphomas.
Dr. Catherine Patte will bring the European experience in the treatment of the paediatric non-Hodgkin's lymphoma according to the histology and immunophenotype. Also in paediatric Hodgkin's lymphoma an excellent rate of cure has been achieved in the last decades. The present task is to maintain this excellent achievement in cure rate with less long-term toxicity that includes a growth rate, sterility and second tumours.
