The Master in Sarcoma is an academic programme developed by the European School of Oncology (ESO) in collaboration with the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma (Rome, Italy).

The programme is designed to advance both the clinical and scientific expertise of professionals working in the management of sarcoma. It combines academic training, multidisciplinary knowledge, and best practices in cancer care, with the aim of improving patient outcomes, care quality, and long-term survival.

Upon successful completion of the course and thesis discussion, participants will earn an academic certificate issued by the University of Campus Bio-Medico and be awarded 60 ECTS credits, divided as follow:

20 ECTS credits for education (160 hours, divided into online modules and in-person seminars)
20 ECTS credits for internship (340 hours)
20 ECTS credits for thesis (500 hours)

The online modules include case presentations and discussions with experts, providing participants with the opportunity to analyse real clinical scenarios, exchange perspectives, and deepen their decision-making skills in a multidisciplinary setting.

Admission

Admission is via competitive application only. A maximum of 25 participants per cohort will be selected. Applications must be submitted with all required documentation before the published deadline.

Attendance

Attendance at all seminars and modules is mandatory in order to be eligible for the final certificate.

To obtain the diploma, participants must successfully complete all three components of the programme: didactic training, clinical traineeship, and final thesis.

Eligibility

The program is designed for:

Medical doctors:

Medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, orthopedic surgeons and surgeons who are engaged in the field of oncology, especially in the field of sarcomas.

Medical degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent degree at the level of state examination and have at least four years of studies and at least two years of clinical experience in one of the following disciplines: medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, orthopedic surgery and surgery

Natural scientists:

Graduates of natural sciences who are engaged in the field of oncology, especially soft tissue and bone sarcomas.
Degree from a college or university in a course of studies in natural sciences or an equivalent degree at the level of at least three years of studies or in a course of studies with essentially the same contents at a college or university and at least two years of professional experience in oncology.

Traineeship

Participants are required to complete a clinical traineeship in a recognised Sarcoma Unit or multidisciplinary oncology setting involved in the management of sarcoma patients.

Working students who are already employed in a Sarcoma Unit may submit part of their working hours for recognition towards the traineeship requirement, subject to programme approval.

If needed, ESO can facilitate placements through its network of collaborating centres to support students in completing their traineeship.

Participants must arrange their own personal and travel insurance. ESO accepts no liability for events related to seminar attendance.

Participation

Admission to the certificate is competitive and limited to 25 selected participants.

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate profile includes:

Completed oncology specialisation at least 2 years ago
Being engaged in clinical trials or research
Fluency in English
Age up to 50 years
Being based in Europe, the Mediterranean region, or Latin America

Selection Process

The current two-step selection method ensures a transparent and unbiased selection of top candidates for participation in this activity:

Automated Scoring using a predefined system
Committee Evaluation of qualitative answers

Tuition fee

Participants accepted to the Master will have to pay a fee of 5.000 EUR, which includes:

Access to all online modules
Registration and accommodation for 2 in-person seminars

Travel expenses to reach the in-person seminars venues are not included.

Financial Aid

A Financial Aid Fund is available for candidates unable to cover the full fee. Requests are reviewed case by case.

Cancellation

All cancellation requests must be sent in writing and will be evaluated individually.
