Programme description

The Christie is the biggest radiotherapy facility in Europe. It houses a national Proton Therapy centre (one of two in the UK) and the only dedicated Proton Research Room for in vitro experiments. The UoM-Christie partnership is exemplified by the Paterson Research Building, promoting interaction, integration and collaboration between researchers and clinical staff through co-location. The Christie offers 2 ESO fellowships of 6-month durations, one on big data applications to improve outcomes in patients having radiation and one on adaptive and MR-guided radiotherapy. Fellows will work in the largest Clinical Oncology UK department with access to state-of-the-art radiotherapy technologies (SABR, MR-linac, CT-adaptive capability) and a broad research portfolio (AI, big data, biomarkers, clinical, genomics, hypoxia, immunology, modelling, physics, radiobiology, translational research in clinical trials). Our data infrastructure provides access to anonymised patient treatment and follow-up data, allowing supported real-world data studies and links with a distributed learning infrastructure for multi-national projects.
