Learning to Care Seminar (3)
Learning to Care Seminar (3)

Course overview
The ESO Learning to Care Seminar is designed to explore important topics in oncology that are often overlooked at traditional congresses. It focuses on cross-cutting issues that are not specific to any single organ, including areas such as ethical challenges, communication, understanding probability and risk, patient-centered care and empowerment, as well as cultural, spiritual, sex, and gender diversity. It offers also a view on the molecular bases of these issues.
Learning objectives
- Understand key ethical principles and dilemmas in oncology and apply them to clinical decision-making.
- Recognize the importance of patient-centered care and incorporate strategies to enhance patient empowerment.
- Develop effective communication skills for engaging with patients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
- Identify the impact of cultural diversity on cancer care and adapt practices to provide culturally sensitive support.
- Explore the role of spiritual beliefs in patient experiences and integrate respectful, holistic care approaches.
- Distinguish between sex and gender differences in oncology and their implications for treatment and care.
- Reflect on personal biases and their potential influence on patient interactions and clinical decisions.
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to address complex, non-organ-specific challenges in oncology.
- Evaluate real-world case scenarios involving ethical, social, and diversity-related issues in cancer care.
- Promote inclusive and equitable practices in oncology across diverse patient populations.
- Knowing the neuroscientific relevance and aspects of the so called "soft skills" in oncology
