Course Overview
The Masterclass in Clinical Oncology is an intensive, practice-oriented course for medical and clinical oncologists with 3–4 years of experience in the field. It is designed to strengthen their skills in the multidisciplinary management of cancer, while promoting international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The Masterclass is divided into two complementary parts:
- Part 1 – Online Lectures
Available from 9 May 2025
Participants will access pre-recorded lectures. This allows flexible, self-paced preparation ahead of the in-person sessions. - Part 2 – In-Person Event
21–24 June 2025
A 3.5-day residential-style course that fosters active discussion and network-building, offering direct access to experienced faculty in a collaborative and informal environment.
The Masterclass features:
- Plenary lectures: State-of-the-art treatments presented by renowned international faculty, with reference to the latest clinical guidelines
- Interactive workshops: Focused on real-world practice and decision-making
- Tumour board simulation: Each participant presents and discusses a clinical case with a panel of top experts
Language
The course will be conducted entirely in English.
Fluency in English is a requirement for admission. Translation is not provided.
Registration Fee
The course will take place at the Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, Warsaw, Poland.
The participation fee includes:
- EUR 300,00 for participants from High-Middle Income Countries*
- EUR 200,00 for participants from Low-Middle Income Countries*
* Based on World Bank classification.
The fee covers:
- Access to all educational sessions and course materials
- 4 nights’ accommodation
- Daily group transfers to/from the venue
- Meals as outlined in the official programme
Travel costs are not covered and must be arranged independently.
ESO College members receive a €100 discount on the registration fee.
The fee is a non-refundable contribution towards organisational costs and will not be reimbursed in the case of withdrawal or non-attendance, regardless of the reason.
Accreditation
A certificate of attendance will be issued upon completion of:
- 75% of the online programme
- 100% attendance at the in-person Masterclass
- Completion of the evaluation questionnaire and learning assessment test for both parts
Application for CME recognition will be submitted to the Accreditation Council of Oncology in Europe (ACOE).
ESO College Credits
Participation in this course grants eligibility to join the ESO College and allows existing members to earn 30 ESO College credits toward their progression.

Participation in the Masterclass is by competitive application only.
A maximum of 60 participants will be selected.
Who Should Apply
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Aged up to 40 years
- 2–3 years’ experience in clinical oncology, working with cancer patients
- Active involvement in clinical trials or scientific research
- Fluent in English
- Reside within ESO’s geographical reach: Europe, Mediterranean countries, or Latin America
Priority will also be given to candidates who:
- Have previously attended ESO’s Basic Principles of Oncology course
- Are members of ESO’s College

Selection Process
ESO uses a two-step evaluation process to ensure fairness and transparency:
- Automated Scoring
Some sections are scored automatically using a predefined system. - Committee Evaluation
Your qualitative responses are reviewed by the selection committee.
Clinical Case Presentation
All participants will be invited to present a clinical case during the in-person Masterclass, as part of a grand round discussion with faculty and peers.
Your submitted case should be based on real clinical practice (not rare or unusual cases) and must include:
- Diagnostic considerations
- Treatment and follow-up
- At least three discussion questions for the faculty
If selected, you will prepare a PowerPoint presentation (max 10 slides). In case of topic overlap within a tumour group, you may be asked to switch to your second choice, which you are encouraged to indicate during application.
