As part of its commitment to professional development and active engagement, the College offers selected Fellows and Graduates the opportunity to take part in the Course Leadership of some ESO events as College Representatives or ESO Ambassadors.
In this role, they will work closely with course Chairs in helping to develop the programme and the learning experience of participants.
College Representatives and ESO Ambassadors may be invited to:
- Contribute to the development of the course programme, working alongside the course Chairs
- Support the Chairs during the event by moderating some scientific sessions
- Deliver a short presentation introducing ESO and the College, including a brief reflection on how ESO has contributed to their professional and educational journey.
- Facilitate interaction and dialogue between Faculty and participants
- Help create an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Through this role, College Fellows and Graduates gain first‑hand experience in academic leadership while actively contributing to ESO’s educational mission.
For ESO Masterclasses and Refresher Courses, College Representatives and ESO Ambassadors may also take on the additional role of Clinical Case Coach.
In this role, they:
- Support selected participants in the preparation of clinical case presentations ahead of the event
- Provide guidance and advice on case structure, clarity, and presentation style
This role is designed to enhance learning outcomes for participants while offering College Representatives valuable experience in mentoring, communication, and educational facilitation.
All Fellows and Graduates selected to take part in ESO Course Leadership as College Representatives, ESO Ambassadors or Clinical Case Coaches are invited to participate in a Presentation Skills Workshop, designed to strengthen their communication and educational presentation skills.
The workshop is held online and delivered by an expert in communication. It is structured in two complementary parts:
- Theoretical sessionParticipants are introduced to key principles of effective scientific communication, including message structure, audience engagement, clarity, and presentation delivery.
- Practical sessionEach participant delivers a 5‑minute presentation, which is then reviewed in detail by the expert. Individualised feedback is provided, focusing on strengths, areas for improvement, and practical techniques to enhance presentation effectiveness.
This workshop not only supports participants in their role during the ESO courses, but also represents a valuable professional development opportunity, strengthening transferable skills essential for leadership, teaching, and international scientific engagement.
