All ESO College Members can request a mentor through our Mentorship Programme — a personalised support opportunity designed to help you grow in your academic, clinical, and personal development.
What the Programme Offers
Selected mentees are paired with a dedicated ESO College Mentor for a one-year collaboration. Mentors offer support tailored to the mentee’s objectives, including:
- Career planning and transitions
- Academic writing and publishing
- Research design and grant writing
- Personal wellbeing and work–life balance
- Exam preparation (national or ESMO boards)
- Building professional networks
- Identifying high-quality training opportunities
Examples of Mentorship Topics
ESO Mentors have supported mentees in areas such as:
- Writing and submitting research grants
- Publishing in scientific journals and choosing the right outlet
- Preparing impactful oral presentations
- Understanding and interpreting academic impact metrics (h-index, citations)
- Navigating burnout and maintaining balance
- Selecting and applying to international training centres
- Planning and completing a Master’s or PhD
- Preparing for National or ESMO certification exams
- Joining translational and clinical research projects
- Expanding international networks
How It Works
- Duration: 12 months
- Format: Virtual — contact via Zoom, email, or phone
- Frequency: Self-managed between mentor and mentee
- In-person meetings: Optional, if both attend the same congress

The OncoPeers Mentorship Programme connects ESO College Graduates with ESO College Students to support their professional development. Through this initiative, Graduates get the chance to share their real-life experience, provide personalised career guidance, and support Students as they transition from training into professional practice.
The programme fosters a supportive and collaborative community, offering Students valuable insights into career pathways, networking opportunities, and the practical skills needed to succeed in the field of oncology.
Who can take part?
• Students – mentees
• Graduates – mentors
Participation is exclusively open to ESO College Students and Graduates.
How does the programme work?
The programme is managed via an online mentoring platform – Mentorink
To take part, participants must create an account on the Mentorink platform.
Mentorink will be used to:
• Collect applications
• Match mentees and mentors based on predefined criteria
• Manage the mentoring journey once partnerships are established
The platform also allows participants to host mentoring meetings, set goals, track progress, and share resources throughout the programme.
How can I take part?
Step 1:
Create an account on Mentorink
Step 2:
• Students: complete the application for the role of mentee
• Graduates: complete the application for the role of mentor
You will be asked to provide personal information, as well as details about your professional background and your reasons for joining the programme. This information will be used to ensure the best possible mentor–mentee match.
Application deadline: 7 April 2026
Step 3:
On 8 April 2026, the Mentoring Marketplace will open.
• Mentees will be able to browse mentor profiles, view matching scores, and send a matching request to mentors (up to three requests at a time). Once a mentor accepts a request, the matching will be created automatically. Each mentee will be matched with one mentor.
• Mentors will receive requests from mentees and be able to review their profiles and application responses. Mentors can accept or decline requests. Each mentor may accept a maximum of two mentees.
Step 4:
Once matched, the mentoring partnership will begin and will last six months. Participants will use the Mentorink platform to:
• Schedule meetings
• Set goals and tasks
• Evaluate sessions
• Share resources
• Track progress throughout the mentorship
